About Tonomachi Research Complex


In 2015, under the new business "Global standard Wellbeing Research Campus for the creation of new industries by innovation of social system and technology” hosted by The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), Keio University, as a core institution, proposed the idea of "Wellbeing Research Campus: Creating new values through technological and social innovation" in collaboration with Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Yokohama City and Ota City, universities and research institutions (Tokyo University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Yokohama City University) and companies (FUJIFILM Corporation, CYBERDYNE Inc). This program was adopted as feasibility study business on November 26th 2015 and was officially selected on September 29th 2016. Research complex supports the construction of a mechanizm producing continuous scientific and technological innovations in the regions where universities, research institutes and companies are strategically integrated. At the same time, the new seeds born from the mechanizm are adopted as new business ideas and will be used to construct such structures like to nurture entrepreneurs, all together work as global hub to aim for "A More Attractive Way of Life (Wellbeing)".

目標 The activities at this pioneering Wellbeing Research Campus will address the unprecedented global challenges associated with "super aging societies" by playing a leading role in improving the wellbeing of people all over the world. Notably, the major goal of this program is to establish a global research complex hub to create knowledge and services for attractive and rich lives.

Objectives of "World Class Region Research and Development/Research Complex Promotion Program"

The objectives is to create world-class innovation and build complex innovation promotion base (research complex) by integrated development of cutting edge research development, commercialization of the results and nurturing of the professionals.

This program is a program in which the players of industry, academia, government officials, and financial institutions gathered in the area will collaborate to foresee how the areas and the social values will come together in the next 5 years and 10years as one of the “vision”. And aim to contribute to the region creation by growth and development of complex innovation promotion base that integratedly deploy global development of cutting edge research development by fusion of different industries, commercialization of the results and nurture of professionals.
